What scales the price
Billable contacts, not subscribers. Omnisend's help center defines billable contacts as subscribers (opted in to email, SMS or push) plus non-subscribers: people who placed an order without opting in, abandoned a cart, created an account, or were imported without an opt-in date. Only unsubscribers are free. A contact in several segments is counted once, and someone subscribed to both email and SMS is billed once.
Automatic tier changes. Your tier is recalculated each billing cycle. Omnisend emails you before an upgrade. The starting prices cover 500 contacts (Standard) and 2,500 contacts (Pro); above those, the price climbs with your list. Omnisend's pricing page has a calculator for in-between sizes, but we could not confirm those tier prices, so we do not list them here.
On Standard, the email allowance scales too. You get 12 emails per billable contact each cycle. At 3,000 contacts, that is 36,000 emails.
Extra and hidden costs
SMS (Pro only for new accounts). US rates by monthly SMS spend, from the help center:
| Monthly SMS spend | Price per SMS (US) |
|---|---|
| $10 to $49.99 | $0.009 |
| $50 to $999.99 | $0.0085 |
| $1,000 to $9,999.99 | $0.008 |
| $10,000+ | $0.007 |
Rates vary by recipient country. Credits expire after 60 days. The help article also mentions unused credits rolling over, so the exact rule is unclear; ask support before buying a large amount.
Legacy SMS rules. If you had an active SMS subscription on Free or Standard before May 4, 2026, you can keep it at legacy rates (from $10/month) as long as it stays active. Cancel it and you cannot re-subscribe on Standard or Free. Legacy Pro was retired on October 26, 2026; those accounts moved to current Pro and SMS is no longer included in the plan. The help center says accounts whose cost went up by more than 20% in the migration may qualify for six months of temporary pricing protection through support.
Standard add-ons. Personalized Content (conditional content and two product recommender types), Personalized Sending Time and Forms Plus (scratch card and mystery box games) can be added to Standard. They are included in Pro. The help center says they are priced by billable-contact tier but does not publish the amounts.
Account freeze. If you pause, you can keep your data for 12 months for a one-off $50 plus VAT.
Taxes and currency. Charges are in USD and prices exclude VAT. The Shopify App Store listing says recurring and usage charges are billed every 30 days, and some charges may be billed by Omnisend separately from your Shopify invoice.
Hitting your limit on Standard. There is no overage fee, but there is a cost: once you reach your email limit, campaigns stop and contacts triggering automations are removed from those workflows until the cycle renews or you upgrade. Lost abandoned cart emails are lost sales.
Worked cost examples
These use only published prices.
New store: 400 contacts, one weekly newsletter plus flows (about 2,500 emails a month). Free does not fit: it caps you at 250 contacts and 500 emails. Standard at $16/month covers up to 500 contacts and 6,000 emails. With the first-upgrade prepay deal, the first three months cost $33.60 in total ($11.20/month).
Growing store: 2,500 contacts, two campaigns a week, full flow set, 3,000 US texts a month. Standard's allowance at 2,500 contacts would be 30,000 emails, which two weekly campaigns plus flows can approach, and SMS is not available on Standard for new accounts anyway. So this store is on Pro: $59/month. SMS: $27 of spend falls in the $10 to $49.99 band, so 3,000 texts at $0.009 cost $27. Total: about $86/month. With the prepay deal on Pro, the base drops to $41.30/month for the first three months.
Upgrading mid-cycle. Upgrades are prorated. The help center's own example: a $70 Standard plan paid 15 days ago, moving to a $105 Pro plan, leaves about $35 of credit, so about $70 is charged and the billing cycle restarts.
How to pay less
- Use the starter deal once. On your first paid upgrade, prepay three months to get 30% off: $11.20/month on Standard ($33.60 total vs. $48) or $41.30/month on Pro ($123.90 total vs. $177). It can be used only once, and billing returns to the regular price afterward.
- Clean your list. Because non-subscribers count, removing old imported contacts you will never email can keep you in a lower tier. Only unsubscribers are free.
- Stay on Standard if you do not need SMS. Pro's main extras are unlimited sending, SMS access and personalization. If 12 emails per contact covers you, Standard is enough.
- Ask about fixed-tier pricing. If you have a large list of non-subscribers, the beta fixed-tier option sets a fixed contact reach instead of billing on every billable contact.
- Use free migration. Free Kickstart Migration is available for brands with more than 250 contacts, so switching does not have to cost an agency fee.
When a cheaper or better-fit alternative makes sense
- Very small list, simple sends: Shopify Email gives stores on most Shopify plans 10,000 free emails a month, then $1 per 1,000. If your list is a few hundred people, it can cost $0.
- You want a cheap entry plan by contact: MailchimpMailchimpEmail and SMSMailchimp, owned by Intuit, is an email and SMS marketing platform for small businesses, with sign-up forms, landing pages, automations and reporting. Which one should you choose?
- Free: only for testing or a list under 250 people with fewer than 500 sends a month.
- Standard: most new and small stores that send email only.
- Pro: stores that need SMS, send often enough to outgrow 12 emails per contact, or want the product recommender and dynamic content.
- Custom / fixed tier: large lists with many non-subscribers; contact support.

How we put this together
We did not test Omnisend hands-on. All plan details, SMS rates, discounts, add-ons and billing rules come from Omnisend's help center article on pricing plans and its Shopify App Store listing, read in November 2026. Omnisend's pricing page did not load for us, so we could not confirm calculator prices for list sizes between the published starting points. Klaviyo and Mailchimp figures come from our fact sheets built from their official pricing pages and Shopify listings, and Shopify Email figures from Shopify's help center. Prices change, so check Omnisend's calculator for your exact list size.
