Omnisend Review (2026): Is It Worth It for Shopify?

Omnisend is a solid, fairly priced email tool for small and mid-size Shopify stores that want abandoned cart, welcome and post-purchase flows without paying for a heavier data platform. It is the wrong pick if you need SMS on a cheap plan (new accounts only get SMS as a paid add-on on Pro) or if you want predictive analytics, where Klaviyo goes further.

What Omnisend does

Omnisend is an email, SMS and web push marketing app built for online stores. Its Shopify App Store listing covers campaigns, newsletters, popups, signup forms and landing pages, plus pre-built abandoned cart, welcome and post-purchase automations. It lists 250+ email templates, AI help for copy, subject lines, product recommendations and segment building, and "250+ integrations." On its Shopify listing it names Shopify Flow, Aftership, Gorgias, Justuno, Loox, Recharge and Yotpo among them.

Two newer features stand out. You can describe a segment in plain language and the built-in AI builds it, and every plan, including Free, can connect to ChatGPT or Claude through Omnisend's MCP server to create campaigns and segments from a chat window.

Every plan, and what it really costs

Omnisend's help center article on pricing plans lists three self-serve plans plus a custom option.

Free ($0). Email up to 250 contacts and send 500 emails a month. You can import more contacts, but campaigns only reach a segment of 250 or fewer. Omnisend branding stays on emails and forms. When you hit 500 emails, you are prompted to upgrade.

Standard (from $16/month). The starting price covers up to 500 contacts. Your monthly email allowance is your billable contacts times 12, so 500 contacts get 6,000 emails and 3,000 contacts get 36,000. It adds unlimited web push notifications, the Forms AI popup builder and removes Omnisend branding. When you reach the email limit, campaigns stop sending and contacts entering automations are removed from those workflows until the cycle renews or you upgrade. That is a real risk on a busy sale month.

Pro (from $59/month). The starting price covers up to 2,500 contacts. Emails are unlimited, subject to a fair use policy tied to anti-spam rules. Pro adds advanced reporting, the AI product recommender, dynamic content and personalized send time. It is the only plan where new accounts can buy SMS.

Custom and fixed-tier pricing. The help center describes a fixed-tier option, in beta for selected users, that caps the contacts you can email instead of billing on every billable contact. You get it by contacting support.

Add-ons on Standard. Personalized Content, Personalized Sending Time and Forms Plus (scratch card and mystery box games) can be added to Standard and are included in Pro. The help article says they are priced by billable-contact tier but does not publish the amounts.

The billing detail most people miss

Omnisend bills on billable contacts, which includes non-subscribers: people who placed an order without opting in, abandoned a cart, created an account or were imported without an opt-in date. Only unsubscribers are free. Your tier moves up automatically each billing cycle, and Omnisend emails you before an upgrade. If your store has many buyers who never subscribed, your bill can be higher than your subscriber count suggests.

Cost at two store sizes

Using only published prices:

Small store, 500 contacts, about 4,000 emails a month: Standard at $16/month. The plan's 6,000-email allowance covers it. If you prepay three months on your first paid upgrade, you get 30% off, which is $11.20/month ($33.60 for the three months).
Growing store, 2,500 contacts, weekly campaigns plus flows, and 2,000 US texts a month: Pro at $59/month, plus SMS. At $10 to $49.99 of monthly SMS spend the rate is $0.009 per message, so 2,000 texts cost $18. Total: about $77/month before any rate differences for non-US numbers.

Omnisend does not publish Standard or Pro prices for list sizes between the starting points in a form we could confirm, so for 1,000 or 5,000 contacts use the calculator on its pricing page.

Strengths

Segmentation is not paywalled. Unlimited segments, pre-built segments, lifecycle stages and the AI segment builder are on every plan. Many competitors keep deeper segmentation for higher tiers.

The ecommerce automations are ready to use. The automations library includes Abandoned Cart and Abandoned Checkout presets, browse and product abandonment, welcome and post-purchase flows. Support on the free plan. The Shopify listing promises "24/7 live support, even on Free," by email and live chat. Free Kickstart Migration is available for brands with more than 250 contacts, and accounts paying $400/month or more get an account expert.

Well rated. 4.7 stars from 3,199 reviews as listed on the Shopify App Store in November 2026, with 89% of ratings at five stars and 5% at one star.

Limits and watch-outs

SMS is now a Pro add-on. For paid plans started on or after May 4, 2026, you must be on Pro to buy SMS credits. Older Standard and Free accounts with an active SMS subscription can keep it at legacy rates, but if they cancel they cannot re-subscribe without moving to Pro. Legacy Pro was retired on October 26, 2026, and those accounts moved to current Pro with SMS no longer included. If SMS is your main channel, a dedicated SMS tool may suit you better.

SMS credits expire. The help article says credits expire after 60 days. It also mentions unused credits rolling over, so the exact rule is unclear; ask support if you plan to buy large packs.

Standard's email cap stops sending. Twelve emails per contact per cycle is fine for a weekly newsletter plus flows. Daily campaigns during a promotion can hit it.

No predictive analytics. Omnisend lists advanced reporting and AI recommendations on Pro but not predictive customer metrics. Klaviyo lists predictive analytics, send time optimization and multi-channel A/B testing on its paid plans. See our Klaviyo vs Omnisend comparison for the full picture.

Billing goes outside Shopify. The App Store listing notes that Omnisend may bill some charges separately from your Shopify invoice, in USD every 30 days.

Who should use Omnisend

Stores with a few hundred to a few thousand contacts that want welcome, abandoned cart and post-purchase flows running quickly.
Owners who want unlimited segmentation without paying for a top tier.
Stores that send email first and want SMS as a smaller add-on once they are on Pro.
Anyone who values 24/7 live chat support, even on a free plan.

Who should skip it

SMS-first brands. If texting is your main revenue channel, Postscript is built for it, with a visual SMS flow builder, unlimited segments on every plan and per-message pricing from $0.009 per SMS. Read our Postscript review.
Data-heavy brands. If you plan to segment on predicted behavior and want multi-channel A/B testing, Klaviyo is the better fit. Its Email plan starts at $20/month for 251 to 500 contacts.
Very small stores sending simple newsletters. Shopify Email gives stores on most Shopify plans 10,000 free emails a month, which may cover you until your list grows.

Verdict

Omnisend is good value for what most Shopify stores need from email: reliable ecommerce automations, unlimited segmentation and responsive support at a starting price of $16/month. Its weak spots are the move of SMS to Pro-only for new accounts and the lack of predictive data. If email is your main channel and you are under a few thousand contacts, it is one of the easiest tools to recommend.
