Start on the free plan: Gelato+ only pays for itself once your monthly product costs are high enough for its discount to cover the subscription, and it does not discount shipping.

What Gelato does
GelatoGelatoPrint on demandGelato is a print-on-demand service that prints and ships custom products from local production hubs in many countries. Free plan, paid from $29.99/mo, 14-day trial.Click for Scout's full analysis prints and ships custom products only when a customer orders, so you hold no stock. You design products, connect your store and Gelato fulfills each order from a production hub near the buyer.
From its Shopify App Store listing:
- 100+ custom products, including apparel, bags, hats, drinkware, wall art, home decor, embroidery, and eco-friendly or organic options
- "140+ local production hubs in 32 countries"
- Private labels, custom packaging, design tools, a mockup generator and personalization
- White-label, global fulfillment
- Integrations with Shopify, Etsy, Amazon, Squarespace, Wix and WooCommerce
- Listing languages: German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Norwegian and Swedish
One small inconsistency: Gelato's help article comparing its plans says local production in 33 countries, while the Shopify listing says 32.
Plans and pricing
Gelato (free): $0. Gelato's help center says the standard platform is "always free, with no startup costs." You pay for production and shipping on each order. The free account includes free mockups for all products, a design editor, Quick Product Expansion, selling on Shopify, Etsy, WooCommerce, Wix, Squarespace, BigCommerce, Order Desk and the API, and up to 2 connected stores and 2 users.
Gelato+: $29.99 a month, or $239.88 a year ($19.99 a month), with a 14-day free trial. Its help center lists:
- Product discounts (the Shopify listing says up to 33% off products)
- 10 connected stores and 5 users
- Premium apparel and wall art mockups, downloadable mockups and Magic Mockups
- Shutterstock access, graphics, image filters, 250 premium fonts and text effects
- A background removal tool
- Live rates and Express Shipping in-store for Shopify
- Branded labels and packaging inserts for posters, shipping profit options, Price Navigator, Velocity Switch, Instant Collections and automatic order fulfillment from remote file storage
Gelato's subscription FAQ adds three points worth knowing:
- "Shipping discounts are not included in the subscription plan."
- "Access to apps is exclusively available through a Gelato+ subscription." Individual app purchases are not offered.
- Live shipping rates require an Advanced Shopify or Shopify Plus plan.
The FAQ footer also mentions a "Platinum" subscription, but we found no details on it in the pages we read. US customers pay applicable local taxes on top of the Gelato+ price.
We did not find a single published price list for products and shipping in the pages we read; those costs vary by product and destination, so check them in your Gelato account before you set retail prices.
What it really costs
Because product and shipping costs depend on what you sell and where, the real question is whether Gelato+ is worth paying for.
Break-even for Gelato+. The listing says the discount is "up to 33%," and the exact rate varies by product. At that maximum, Gelato+ billed yearly ($19.99 a month) pays for itself once you spend about $61 a month on products (not shipping). Billed monthly ($29.99), the break-even is about $91 a month. If your products get a smaller discount, the break-even is higher.
A new store selling 10 items a month. Stay on free. Unless your product costs are well above $61, the discount will not cover the subscription, and the free plan already includes mockups and Shopify selling.
An established store selling a few hundred items a month. Gelato+ very likely pays for itself on product discounts alone, and the extra connected stores, users and design tools are a bonus. Check your actual discount on your top products during the 14-day trial.

Easy cancellation. Its help center says you can cancel Gelato+ at any time without further charges; your stores and accounts stay, though Gelato+ apps are uninstalled.
Limits and watch-outs
- No shipping discount on Gelato+. The subscription discounts products only.
- Apps need Gelato+. If you want an app-based feature, you must subscribe.
- Live shipping rates need a higher Shopify plan. Gelato says live rates require Advanced Shopify or Shopify Plus. Advanced is $399 a month ($299 billed yearly); see our Shopify pricing guide.
- Support complaints. Individual Shopify reviews mention slow replies from human support and an AI chatbot standing between them and a person, plus technical issues such as personalization collections disappearing from a live store. Gelato responded to both.
- Store limits on free. Free allows 2 connected stores and 2 users; Gelato+ raises that to 10 and 5.
Who should use Gelato

How we put this together
We did not test Gelato hands-on or order samples. Plans, prices and features come from Gelato's own pages, read in November 2026: its help articles on subscription cost, subscription FAQs and the difference between the free plan and Gelato+, and its Shopify App Store listing. The rating and review details are as listed on the Shopify App Store in November 2026. The break-even figures are our arithmetic on Gelato's published prices and its "up to 33%" discount. Prices change, so confirm them in your account before you commit.
