Do you need one?
A project management tool helps once more than one or two people touch the same work: product launches, a content and promo calendar, supplier and restock follow-ups, ad creative requests, or a recurring fulfillment checklist. If it is just you, a free plan (or a notes app) is plenty. If you are still setting up the store, start with our guide to starting a Shopify store first.
Both of these tools publish paid prices only for annual billing, so the numbers below assume you commit for a year.
ClickUp
ClickUpClickUpProductivityClickUp is a project management app with tasks, docs, forms and automations in one workspace, plus pooled AI credits. Free plan, paid from $9/mo.Click for Scout's full analysis puts tasks, docs, forms and automations in one workspace, and it gives you the most for the money at small team sizes.
Pricing (per user, per month, billed yearly):
- Free Forever: $0. Unlimited tasks and free members, 60 MB storage, 5 Spaces, 100 automation actions per workspace per month, 500 AI credits per workspace. Gantt, time tracking and dashboards are trial-only.
- Core: $9 (shown marked down from $12). Unlimited storage, unlimited Gantt, time tracking, custom fields, goals, guest permissions, 1,000 automation actions per workspace per month, 1,000 pooled AI credits per user.
- Business: $17 (marked down from $25). 10,000 automation actions, webhooks and integrations in automations, advanced dashboards, timesheets, workload view, resource management and Google SSO.
- Max: $100 (marked down from $120). Everything in Enterprise plus expanded AI features.
- Enterprise: contact sales.
Extra AI credits cost $10 per 10,000. ClickUp's page does not show monthly-billing prices.
Fits: small teams that want one tool for tasks and internal docs, such as SOPs for packing orders or handling returns, and that want to automate status changes and assignments without paying for a higher tier.
Watch out: dashboards are trial-only on Free and Core, so you need Business for reporting views. The page is inconsistent about Core automations (the plan card says "1K Automations/mo," the table says 1,000 actions per workspace), and AI use beyond your pooled credits is billed separately. ClickUp has a lot of features, which some teams find harder to learn than a simple board.
Skip it if: your team wants the simplest possible board and will not use docs, goals or custom fields.
monday.com
monday.commonday.comProductivitymonday.com is a work management platform where teams track projects, tasks and workflows on shared boards. Free plan, paid from $9/mo, 14-day trial.Click for Scout's full analysis is a board-based work management tool. Each board is a visual table of items with columns for status, owner and dates, which is easy for a non-technical team to pick up.
Pricing (per seat, per month, billed annually):
- Free: $0 for up to 2 seats, 3 boards, 3 Docs, 200+ templates, 8 column types and mobile apps.
- Basic: $9. Unlimited items, unlimited free viewers, 1,000 AI credits.
- Standard: $12. 250 automation actions and 250 integration actions per month, 3 workflows, Timeline & Gantt and Calendar views, guest access, 2,000 AI credits.
- Pro: $19. 25,000 automation and integration actions per month, 20 workflows, private boards, time tracking, advanced views, 3,000 AI credits.
- Enterprise: custom quote, with a 12-month minimum term.
The FAQ says yearly billing saves 18%; monthly prices are not shown. There is a 14-day free trial of Pro. monday.com also sells a separate CRM product on the same account.
Fits: teams of 3 or more who want a clear visual tracker for launches, content calendars or fulfillment tasks, and who value ease of use over packing in features.
Watch out: seats are sold in buckets (plans start at 3 seats, then 5, 10 and up), so a team of 4 pays for 5. Basic has no automations or integration actions listed, so most teams need Standard. And Standard's 250 automation actions a month runs out quickly if you automate every status change; the next step, Pro, is $19 a seat.
Skip it if: you are a team of one or two who wants automations. The free plan has none, and the smallest paid bucket is 3 seats.
