How they differ

ShopifyShopifyStore platformsShopify is a hosted ecommerce platform for building and running an online store, with checkout, payments and an app store for add-ons. Paid from $39/mo, 3-day trial.Click for Scout's full analysis is an ecommerce platform first. Its plans differ mainly by card processing rate, staff accounts and the fee charged when you use a payment provider other than Shopify Payments. Most extra features come from apps in the Shopify App Store.

Wix eCommerceWix eCommerceStore platformsWix eCommerce is the online store side of the Wix website builder. Free plan, paid from $29/mo.Click for Scout's full analysis is the store side of the Wix website builder. You design the whole site in Wix's drag-and-drop editor, and the plan you pick decides whether you can take payments and how much store functionality you get ("basic," "standard" or "advanced" eCommerce on Core, Business and Business Elite).

Shopify

Pricing (US prices from Shopify's pricing page, November 2026):

  • Basic: $39/month, or $29/month billed yearly. Online card rate 2.9% + 30¢.
  • Grow: $105/month, or $79/month billed yearly. Online card rate 2.7% + 30¢. 5 additional staff accounts.
  • Advanced: $399/month, or $299/month billed yearly. Online card rate 2.5% + 30¢. 15 additional staff accounts.
  • Plus: from $2,300/month. Online card rate 2.25% + 30¢.

If you use a payment provider other than Shopify Payments, Shopify adds a fee of 2% (Basic), 1% (Grow), 0.6% (Advanced) or 0.2% (Plus) on each sale. Basic, Grow and Advanced include 10 inventory locations; Plus goes up to 200. Shopify POS Pro is an $89/month add-on per location on Basic, Grow and Advanced.

Good fit if: you are building a brand where the store is the business, you plan to run ads to product pages, or you expect to need apps for reviews, email, upsells or subscriptions.

Watch out for: no free plan, apps add monthly costs, and the third-party payment fee if you skip Shopify Payments.

Wix eCommerce

Pricing. Wix's plans page says "Displayed prices are for yearly subscriptions, paid in full at the time of purchase" and that "Prices and currency vary by location." Our fact sheet, checked November 2, 2026, lists these US yearly-billing prices:

  • Free: $0. Cannot accept payments.
  • Light: $17/month. 2 GB storage. Cannot accept payments.
  • Core: $29/month. Accepts payments, "basic" eCommerce, 50 GB storage.
  • Business: $39/month. "Standard" eCommerce, 100 GB storage.
  • Business Elite: $159/month. "Advanced" eCommerce, unlimited storage.

When we read the plans page in November 2026 it showed prices with local tax included (for example $29.77 for Core), so the number you see will depend on where you are. The plans page does not show month-to-month prices or payment processing rates. Wix offers a 14-day money-back guarantee on your first upgrade.

Selling features Wix lists on its official pages:

  • Dropshipping through Modalyst and print-on-demand through Printful and Printify
  • Selling on Facebook, Instagram, Google Shopping and eBay from one dashboard
  • Abandoned cart recovery emails and subscription products
  • Wix POS for in-person sales
  • Up to 50,000 products, multi-currency display, and 90+ languages via Wix Multilingual

Good fit if: your site is mostly about your business (a studio, a service, a portfolio or a local shop) and products are one part of it. Wix keeps the site and store in one editor.

Watch out for: you need at least Core to take payments, Wix's plans page does not show what processing costs or monthly billing costs, and the differences between "basic," "standard" and "advanced" eCommerce are not spelled out on the plans page. Check the full plan comparison before you pay for a year upfront.

What it costs at two store sizes

Only published prices are used. Wix does not publish card processing rates on its plans page, so we can show only its plan fee.

Small store: $3,000 a month in online sales, 60 orders of $50.

  • ShopifyShopifyStore platformsShopify is a hosted ecommerce platform for building and running an online store, with checkout, payments and an app store for add-ons. Paid from $39/mo, 3-day trial.Click for Scout's full analysis Basic billed yearly: $29/month plan fee ($348 paid upfront for the year). Card processing at 2.9% + 30¢ is $87 + $18 = $105. Total: about $134/month before apps.
  • Wix eCommerceWix eCommerceStore platformsWix eCommerce is the online store side of the Wix website builder. Free plan, paid from $29/mo.Click for Scout's full analysis Core billed yearly: $29/month plan fee ($348 for the year). Card processing: not published on the plans page, so check Wix's payments terms for your country.

At this size the plan fees are the same on yearly billing. The deciding factor is processing cost, which you will need to confirm with Wix.

Growing store: $25,000 a month in online sales, 500 orders of $50.

  • ShopifyShopifyStore platformsShopify is a hosted ecommerce platform for building and running an online store, with checkout, payments and an app store for add-ons. Paid from $39/mo, 3-day trial.Click for Scout's full analysis Grow billed yearly: $79/month. Card processing at 2.7% + 30¢ is $675 + $150 = $825. Total: about $904/month. On Basic (yearly), processing would be $725 + $150 = $875, plus $29 = $904, so Basic and Grow cost about the same here; Grow adds staff accounts.
  • Wix eCommerceWix eCommerceStore platformsWix eCommerce is the online store side of the Wix website builder. Free plan, paid from $29/mo.Click for Scout's full analysis Business billed yearly: $39/month plan fee. Processing not published on the plans page.

Can Wix handle dropshipping? Yes. Wix lists dropshipping through Modalyst and print-on-demand through Printful and Printify among its selling features.

How we put this together

We did not test either platform hands-on. Shopify facts come from Shopify's pricing page, read in November 2026. Wix facts come from Wix's plans page and eCommerce features pages, read in November 2026, plus our verified fact sheet checked on November 2, 2026. Wix shows prices by location and on yearly billing only, so the price in your country may differ. Confirm current prices and processing rates before you commit.
