For most Shopify stores, Photoroom is the better choice: it does cutouts, AI backgrounds, virtual models, batch editing and video, and its Shopify app publishes edited images back to your catalog. Pebblely is the simpler tool if all you want is your product placed into themed AI backgrounds at a predictable price per image, but its Shopify app is currently listed as unavailable.

Choose Photoroom if you want one tool for cleanup, styled scenes and listing updates, and you want to push edited images straight to Shopify.

Choose Pebblely if you only need styled backgrounds, want to know exactly how many images you get each month, and are happy to upload results to your store by hand.

What each tool does

Photoroom

Photoroom is an AI photo editor for product listings, with apps for iOS, Android and the web, an API, and a Shopify app.

Its pricing page lists these per-plan allowances:

Pro: 8,000 AI credits and 1,000 exports a month; up to 4,000 AI Backgrounds generations; up to 1,600 AI Fashion Models images; no video
Max: 25,000 credits and 3,000 exports; up to 50 video generations for ads and product pages; Shopify integration
Ultra: 75,000 credits and 10,000 exports; up to 150 video generations
Enterprise: custom, usage-based pricing with SSO, an SLA and dedicated onboarding

Batch exports count toward your export limit, and exports pause at the limit until the next billing cycle or an upgrade.

The Shopify app, Photoroom AI Listing Assistant, lets you review listing quality scores for single products or your whole catalog, generate studio-style images with virtual models, backgrounds and shadows, bulk edit product photos, and publish changes back to your store.

Watch out: Photoroom's own pricing page did not show dollar amounts when we checked, and it shows no public USD price for Ultra. The prices in this post come from Photoroom's Shopify App Store listing. The pricing page also lists the Shopify integration on Max and Ultra, not Pro, so if publishing to Shopify matters, budget for Max or confirm in the app.

Pebblely

Pebblely takes a product photo and places it into AI-generated backgrounds and scenes.

Its pricing page lists three paid plans:

Lite: $9/month, 30 images, 40+ background themes, custom prompts, no bulk generation
Basic: $19/month, 200 images, bulk generation
Pro: $39/month, 500 images, bulk generation ("Best value")

Yearly billing gives "2+ months free," but yearly prices are not listed. Pebblely's terms mention a free version, though the pricing page does not show a free tier or its limits.

Watch out: Pebblely's Shopify app, Pebblely AI, is listed as currently unavailable on the Shopify App Store. The pricing page does not mention resolution or watermarks, so check those before you commit.

Head to head

Range of tools. Photoroom covers far more: background removal, AI backgrounds, AI fashion models, video on Max and up, batch editing, listing quality scores and an API. Pebblely is focused on one job, styled backgrounds.

Predictable cost. Pebblely is easier to budget for. You know you get 30, 200 or 500 images. Photoroom meters by AI credits and exports, and its pricing page does not spell out how many credits each action uses beyond the listed generation caps.

Shopify workflow. Photoroom wins clearly. Its app imports your catalog and publishes changes back. With Pebblely, you download images and upload them to Shopify yourself.

Free use. Photoroom has a free plan and a 7-day trial on yearly Pro and Max. Pebblely's free version is mentioned in its terms but not detailed on its pricing page.

Who should skip each one

Skip Photoroom if:

You want a flat, predictable number of images each month and do not want to track credits and exports.
You only need a handful of styled shots and never touch your Shopify listings in bulk.
You need the Shopify integration but cannot justify Max, since the pricing page lists it on Max and Ultra.

Skip Pebblely if:

You want to edit and publish images inside Shopify. Its app is listed as unavailable.
You need cutouts, retouching, AI fashion models or product video as well as backgrounds.
You want to try it free before paying. Its pricing page does not show a free tier or a trial.

A typical workflow with each

With Photoroom, a store would connect the Shopify app, import the catalog, check listing quality scores, apply a background or virtual model to a batch of products, and publish the changes back to the store. The same account works on the iOS, Android and web apps if you shoot new products on a phone.

With Pebblely, you upload a product photo, pick one of the 40+ background themes or write a custom prompt, generate images (in bulk on Basic and Pro), download the ones you like, and upload them to Shopify through your admin. It is fewer steps to learn, but more manual work per product once your catalog grows.

What it costs at two store sizes

Small store, about 30 styled images a month:

Pebblely Lite: $9/month
Photoroom Pro: $12.99/month, or $89.99/year (about $7.50/month)

On yearly billing, Photoroom Pro is cheaper than Pebblely Lite and includes far more, though Shopify publishing is listed on Max.

Growing store, about 400 styled images a month and Shopify publishing:

Pebblely Pro: $39/month for 500 images, plus manual uploads to Shopify
Photoroom Max: $34.99/month, or $250/year, with 3,000 exports and the Shopify integration listed

At this size the prices are close, and Photoroom adds the Shopify connection and video.

Choose Photoroom if you want cutouts, styled scenes and bulk publishing to Shopify in one tool.
Choose Photoroom Max if you also want short product videos for ads and product pages.
Choose Pebblely if you only need themed backgrounds and like a fixed image count.
